City Hall

I can't say enough about Instagram, it really is a game changer for photographers. Being born and raised in Richmond, Va I feel like I have a good grasp on all of the prime locations for landscape photography. Well, after joining Instagram I realized that there were a TON of great spots out there that I had never visited.

Today was a good example of that. I had recently been talking to a fellow photographer on Instagram named Jared, "JTCAMPHOTO", who turned me on to the observation deck down at City Hall. I finally made it down there today, and while it was very hot and hazy, it still made for a great trip.

The only downside is parking downtown. Other than that, you walk in, take an elevator all the way to the top and you are all set. As an added bonus there was a few people watching the peregrine falcons over on the Riverfront Plaza. The couple had one chick this year and any day now the fledgling falcon is going to take flight. One of the people works for the Times Dispatch and was on a walkie talkie with other folks on the ground. I had no idea this was such a big deal!

Broad Appetit

Linda and I decided that after a couple years of missing out on Broad Appetit that it was time to check it out again. The Richmond food and art scene is booming, but for the first time our friends, Mai and Tony, who own The Hungry Turtle Food Truck were participating, so we definitely wanted to check it out.

Getting down to Broad Street around 11:30 was a great idea; not too crowded yet, and not too hot. Additionally, the beer lines were non existent. Overall, this is a great event that should not be missed. Lots of great food, art, beer, music, and people make for a great experience.

There are a lot of people that come to this event, but everyone is there to have a good time.

In addition to the food offerings, there is a focus on the RVA art scene. There are several stores and galleries such as this one called, Quirk.

Here's a close up of The Hungry Turtle's "pho dog". This was very tasty and many others agreed as well, it won second place overall.
